Write Your Story. Add Your Voice to the Great Chorus.
There's one seat left in the Authors’ Knot!
Between the solstice and the first of the year, I collected my omens for 2025.1
On December 22, the day which gave insight into the month of February, I watched a flock of Canada geese cutting through the frigid morning sky.
They were flying north.
Contrary to whatever migration is “supposed” to be, they flouted conventional wisdom and soared together on their own shared quest.
I took those birds to be a sign for the writers who would gather with me in the Authors’ Knot this year.
The Authors’ Knot is the the intimate, 10-month writing program I have created for folks who are ready to to write a book or make progress on another “big project” this year.
The writers who have joined us so far are working on memoirs, novels, and, yes, looking to sustain something substantial here on Substack.
There are many writing groups out there, but there’s something about this group: they are brave souls who know that they need to break with the status quo in order to tell the stories they must tell.
They know they need to write now in order to be the good ancestors they long to be.
Why starting a creative project right now is like flying north in the middle of winter (and why it’s a wonderful idea)
Right now, when the world seems caught in contraction, conflict, and distraction, it’s easy to get lost in the uncertainty.
There’s so much to do, what could I possibly say in the face of it all?
At a moment like this when it feels as if so much needs to be done on the collective level, it might be hard to imagine dedicating yourself to your own creative project.
But, of course, the great collective changes are built on the power and presence of individual voices that are ready to lend themselves to the to the great chorus.
The long, uncertain path before us requires creative, generative engagement.
It requires contemplation and the conscious shaping of responses and ideas.
In the Authors’ Knot, we’re dedicated to creating a small community of tender hearts and engaged minds. We each have our own story to tell, and we’re also dedicated to being part of the vast story we’re all here to live together.
There’s just one seat left in the the Authors’ Knot, is it for you?
Learn all about the group here. You can also apply to join us on that page.
We begin on February 17, and we’re holding our introductory session tomorrow evening.
Want to talk about whether this group is right for you? I cleared my calendar on Monday, and would love to chat.
What's Illuminated by the 12 Rays of Solstice?
And here we are, at the heart of the longest, darkest nights in the northernmost parts of the globe. As ever, it’s a time of such possibility. It’s also a time of bone-deep weariness.
