Crossroads, Crosswords, Crossworlds
Playing with Words & Getting More Serious about Writing in 2025
Last night, I was reminding my community, the Writers’ Knot, that I am teaching the Writer at the Crossroads workshop this week.
The only problem is that I kept telling them I would love to see them at the Writer at the Crosswords.
This morning, as I was working on the slides for the presentation, my 10 year-old looked over my shoulder and said “Oh, the Writer at the Crossworlds, that’s so cool!”
Honestly, that is cool. And, it’s the truest misreading ever.
As I put together the presentation, which offers practical strategies for writers and then takes everything deeper with a guided meditation across several imaginal landscapes, I realize I am taking people aCrossworlds.
Will you join me?
Why Should You Meet Me at the Crossroads?
The crossroads are a potent symbol in mythology.
They are alive with choice. They are a liminal space. They are a place for death and dancing.
At the crossroads, anything can happen.
As a human and as a creative, I’m always drawn to the crossroads. I identify as a liminal creature. Maybe you do too?
I linger at thresholds, loving that I can be both inside and outside at the same time. I set up camp in the tidal zones because I love both the solidity of earth and the flow of the sea.
It’s a Gemini thing, for sure. Liminality is also a foundational wisdom of Celtic spirituality. Remember, Brigid was born in a doorway, and the “thin places” in this world are portals to the Otherworld.
There’s risk in this fringe-dwelling, of course. I sometimes get stuck in the middle and feel like I belong neither here nor there. Sometimes, I get caught up in the dualities and the both/and solidifies into a punishing either/or.
But, after spending years as an apprentice to the crossroads (my office literally overlooks a five-way junction of driveways and country lanes), I can keep my wits about me in the in-between places.
I can guide others when they reach the crossroads, and when they wish to crossworlds as well.
In the Writer at the Crossroads, we’ll talk about the creative choices we must make every time we face the blank page.
This writing workshop invites you to stretch beyond wordcraft. We’re going to explore who we want to be on the page, not just how we want to say things. We’ll consider our passions and our priorities, and learn how to find the stories that are truly ours to tell.
We’ll be exploring several different worlds along the way, and I would love to have you with us.
This sort of visionary work will set you up for a confident, successful 2025 - as a writer, and as an individual who wants to contribute your unique magic to the world.
NOTE: the workshop is free, but you do need to register to receive the Zoom link.
I’ll be offering the same content at two separate live events to accommodate my global community: at 7 PM ET on Wednesday, December 4 and at noon ET on Friday, December 6.
I hope to see you there!
