Crossroads, the intersection where disparate paths converge, has always been viewed as a locus of extreme potency and ambivalent gods able to contain and synthesize opposites flowing into one another.

You could say that today is a crossroads day. We stand at the intersection of the sacred and the material.
It’s the biggest shopping day of the year, or so we are told. And, as the song says, it’s nearly the most wonderful time of the year.
There’s a straight path from here to Christmas (with quick stops along the way for Hanukkah and other holidays that encourage gift giving). We can hit sales and accrue new stuff, all the way through to the holy time of birth and rebirth.
What’s that, in the quote above, about ambivalent gods and synthesized opposites?
As ever, this is a strange and beautiful time to be alive. How do we hold onto that elusive “spirit of the season” without getting swept away? How do we celebrate the return of the light without being blinded by the headlights of the Amazon truck?
Surely it’s helpful to keep our feet firmly on the earth and recognize the crossroads moments - and all their attendant choices and dilemmas - as they arise.
Will I see you at another crossroads next week?
Will you join us for the Writers at the Crossroad?
There’s still a desire to focus on art and the inner work in the midst of December blur, isn’t there?
I hope you’ll join me next week for one of the Writer at the Crossroads workshops.
When you write, you constantly stand at the crossroads.
The choices are endless. It’s a remarkable blessing. Except for when it feels like a curse.
Sometimes, you’re able to weave all the ideas into a rich new tapestry. Sometimes, confused and frustrated, you feel abandoned by the very gods and muses who called you to create something new.
In the Writer at the Crossroad workshop, we will explore the tension and the possibilities that come with “getting to choose your next adventure” on the page.
This workshop is for writers who want fresh strategies that will help you accomplish your writing goals, whether that’s getting established on Substack, making progress on your memoir, completing your non-fiction book project, or expanding your creative practice in a brave new way.
And, it’s for writers who crave magic and a chance to explore the imaginal realm.
You’ll have a chance to consider your own creative archetypes and energy, and learn how to use them to plan how and what you will write in 2025.
The workshops are free, but you do need to register below to receive the Zoom link. I’m offering it twice (December 4 at 7 PM ET and December 6 at noon ET) to accommodate my wonderful global community.
